Description

If you like open world games where you can wander around for hours just seeing what you find, Crimson Desert Enhanced has that vibe in a big way. You play as Kliff trying to pull his old crew back together while dealing with some dark threat across this continent full of different zones. It starts off feeling pretty standard but then pulls you in with the mix of fights and exploration.

Review

The combat feels really solid once you get the hang of chaining attacks and using the environment, like knocking enemies off cliffs or into traps, but the side quests can drag with too much backtracking and fetch tasks that break the flow. Exploration is the real hook though, since riding around on your mount and discovering hidden ruins or the creepy Abyss area keeps things fresh even if the map markers sometimes lead to empty spots. The visuals are sharp with detailed wilderness and city areas that change nicely from day to night, and the sound design sells the atmosphere hard with wind howling through ruins and intense battle music that ramps up during big fights. It all comes together to make Pywel feel alive, though some texture pop-in on the PS5 version pulls you out of it now and then. Overall this is a good pick if you enjoy games like The Witcher or Ghost of Tsushima and don't mind a bit of grinding for faction upgrades, but skip it if repetitive missions kill your mood. It shines most when you just ignore the main story and go mess around in the world on your own terms.
