Maika Monroe Says She'd Happily Return to The Guest Universe
Maika Monroe has said she would be glad to step back into the world of The Guest, the 2014 thriller that helped turn her into a familiar face in modern horror.
In a conversation with Polygon about her upcoming film Victorian Psycho, the actor spoke fondly of director Adam Wingard, noting that the two had met for coffee recently. She called him great to be around and said she would jump at the chance to collaborate with him again.
No Anna in Onslaught
Monroe does not appear in Onslaught, this year's quasi-follow-up from Wingard, because that film brings back no characters from its predecessor. In The Guest, written by Simon Barrett, Dan Stevens played David, a polite stranger who talks his way into the home of a grieving family by claiming to have served alongside their late son. Monroe's Anna, the eldest daughter, is the first to doubt him as violence spreads through their town.
Onslaught pairs Wingard with Barrett once more and stars Adria Arjona as a veteran living with PTSD who must protect her daughter and neighbours from three escaped military experiments. Stevens returns in a different role, playing an elderly German scientist with Nazi connections who helped create those super-soldiers. Wingard has said the events unfold close to the town seen in The Guest, and both titles sit inside the loose "KPG-verse" tied to the shadowy group behind the experiments.
Connections between the films
Wingard has hinted that Stevens' two characters may share some kind of link, and suggested future films could make that explicit. Stevens himself has said he is open to more stories in that continuity, though he is unsure whether a direct Guest sequel is likely soon. Monroe, meanwhile, has her own franchise business: the sequel to It Follows, titled They Follow, has finished shooting.
For anyone who enjoys connected universes, the takeaway is simple — the people involved all seem willing, and the shared mythology is already in place.
