Warframe's Tau Expansion Brings a New Star System in December

Digital Extremes has confirmed that the free Warframe: Tau expansion will launch in December 2026, marking the first time players can leave the Origin System behind and explore an entirely new star system. The announcement came during Devstream 198, where the team showcased what's coming in this massive update.

New Story, New Warframe, New Worlds

The expansion introduces a single-player narrative chapter that leads players into the Tau system. At its center is Brysko, the 67th playable Warframe, voiced by Matt Mercer. Inspired by classic noir detectives, Brysko can be earned through gameplay or purchased instantly from the in-game market.

Once the story is complete, players gain access to two distinct locations within Tau: Perita and Fornax. A dedicated Tau System Star Chart will serve as the hub for all activities in the new region. Digital Extremes also confirmed that fresh cosmetics for Koumei and Nezha are in development, along with future content planned to expand Tau further.

Origin System Isn't Going Anywhere

Community Director Megan Everett reassured fans that the original star system will not be neglected. The team has many stories still to tell there, and the addition of Tau simply gives them more space to share those narratives.
