Description

Enshrouded dropped into early access and immediately felt like the survival game a lot of us have been waiting for. It's got that familiar loop of gathering, crafting, and building, but the combat and world exploration feel way more engaging than most of the genre. The whole Shroud corruption thing adds this constant tension that makes every expedition feel meaningful.

Review

The gameplay hits a sweet spot between exploration and survival that keeps you hooked for hours. Combat actually feels good for once, with responsive melee attacks and magic that doesn't feel tacked on, though the stamina system can get annoying when you're trying to traverse the map quickly. Building is genuinely creative with the terraforming tools letting you shape the world however you want, but the resource management gets tedious when you're constantly running back and forth for basic materials. The co-op works surprisingly well too, making it easy to drop in with friends without the usual connection headaches. The world looks decent with its handcrafted feel, though it won't blow you away graphically compared to bigger budget titles. The Shroud fog creates this creepy atmosphere that actually makes you nervous about exploring at night, and the sound design nails those unsettling ambient noises when you're deep in corrupted areas. The soundtrack isn't particularly memorable, but it stays out of the way and lets the environmental audio do the heavy lifting for immersion. If you're into survival games but want something with better combat and actual story elements, this is worth checking out, especially if you like playing with friends. The early access nature shows in some rough edges and missing features, but the core loop is solid enough that it already feels like a complete experience. Solo players will still get plenty out of it, though the building and exploration shine brightest when you're coordinating with others.
