Under the hood, ETS2 is all about weight, timing, and planning. The trucks feel heavy and honest, with trailers that swing and punish sloppy entries into tight turns. You can go automatic if you want to chill or grab a shifter and really work the gearbox. Jobs start small, then you buy your first truck, take a loan, and slowly build a company by picking skills like long distance or fragile cargo. Fatigue, fuel, fines, and damage keep you awake, and the parking challenges are a satisfying little victory when you nail a tight reverse. The AI traffic can be dopey at merges and sudden brakes happen, and the economy gets a bit easy once your hired drivers snowball profits, but convoy multiplayer and a mountain of mods keep the loop fresh for ages. Visually, it is quietly beautiful. Cab interiors are detailed and cozy, scenery swings from rainy Baltic pine to Spanish sunbaked hills, and the reworked regions look great even if some older areas still show their age. The day night cycle, improved lighting, and weather sell the road trip vibe, while the soundscape is excellent with turbo whistles, air brakes, and wipers setting the mood. The in game radio lets you stream real stations or toss in your own tunes, which is perfect for long hauls. Performance is solid on modest rigs, wheel support is strong, and there is VR if you have the hardware and patience for tuning. If you want high octane action, this is not your stop. But if you like chill, purposeful games that reward focus and small wins, ETS2 is one of the best podcast games around and a surprisingly deep sim. The base game is already meaty, and the DLC map expansions are worth it if you catch the itch to see more of Europe. Grab a wheel if you can, but a controller or even keyboard works fine, then settle in for one more delivery that somehow turns into three.
