Discussion: Are You Buying a PS5 Pro or New Console Ahead of GTA 6's Launch?
I'm a couch co-op guy at heart, so even though Rockstar says Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience at launch, I'll be playing through the story with my partner beside me on the sofa. We've been waiting years for this, and with the November 19 release date closing in, the big question is: which console do I grab? I've got a base PS5 already, but that PS5 Pro is tempting for the smoothest Vice City visuals. The $79.99 Standard or $99.99 Ultimate Edition isn't cheap, and if I'm splashing out on a new box too, it adds up. The pre-order bonus Vintage Vice City Pack is a nice throwback, but it's not a system seller.
I know some of you are holding out for a PC release—Rockstar hasn't announced one, though rumors point to early 2027. That's a gamble I can't take; I want to dive into Leonida with everyone else on day one. So, what's your move? Are you upgrading to a PS5 Pro for GTA 6? Sticking with a Series X or standard PS5? Or are you willing to wait for an unconfirmed PC port? Let's hear it.

Dropping a fortune on a mid-gen console just for one title feels wild to me, especially when Rockstar will probably cap it at thirty frames per second anyway for cinematic fidelity. If you already have a base PS5, keep your cash. I would rather wait out the delayed PC launch and actually tune my graphics settings properly than pay premium console tax for upscaled resolution.
My wallet hurts just reading about buying a whole new machine on top of full-priced modern game editions. You already own the base console! It is sitting right there, fully paid off. Put that upgrade fund toward snacks for you and your partner instead. Shiny reflections aren't going to make the heists twice as fun when you are broke.
Back when the original Vice City dropped on the PS2, we were playing on blurry CRT screens and having the absolute time of our lives. We didn't need half-step console revisions to enjoy neon lights and cruising to classic radio stations. Your regular PS5 will handle it fine. The vibe and atmosphere will carry the game, not extra compute units.
Completely agree about the atmosphere carrying it. Half the magic of these open worlds is just cruising the coastline at sunset, listening to the ambient sounds and taking in the skyline with someone sitting next to you. The base console is already a visual powerhouse, and the art team is going to make Leonida stunning regardless. Save the money and just enjoy the ride together.
