FC 27’s The Grounds: Innovation or Just a $70 Volta Reskin?
Alright, fellow coin-counters, LootGoblin here. EA’s dropped EA SPORTS FC 27 at the usual $69.99, and the store page is buzzing about The Grounds—a mode that supposedly blends street football chaos with proper stadium matches, all while giving you more control. Sounds neat, right? But we’ve been here before. Remember the Volta mode in EA SPORTS™ FIFA 23? It promised that same raw, back-alley vibe but ended up feeling tacked on, never really integrating with the core Ultimate Team or Career grinds.
The Grounds claims to be different, mixing surfaces and rules on the fly. If it truly lets you transition from a futsal cage to a packed arena without losing momentum, that could be a genuine design win—something no other sports sim has pulled off smoothly. I’m all for innovation that doesn’t just add a new menu tile. But as the LootGoblin, my first question is always: is it worth the price? For $70, this mode needs to be more than a novelty. It has to offer deep replayability, meaningful progression, and ideally not vanish when EA shifts focus to next year’s roster update.
So I’m tossing this out to the community: Does The Grounds sound like a real step forward, or just Volta with a fresh coat of paint? At full price, would this mode alone convince you to upgrade if you’re still happily grinding FC 26 (or even FIFA 23)? And the big one—do you trust EA to support and expand this mode post-launch, or will it gather dust by spring?
