GTA 6 Pre-Loading Starts November 12, Giving Players a Week to Download

Rockstar Games has officially set the pre-load date for Grand Theft Auto VI. Players who pre-ordered digitally can begin downloading the game on November 12, exactly one week before its November 19 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Managing the Massive Download

GTA 6 is expected to require around 210 GB of storage on PS5, according to recent reports. For context, GTA 5 currently takes up roughly 87–104 GB, while Red Dead Redemption 2 needs about 111–116 GB. While file size doesn't directly reflect game scope, Rockstar has described Leonida as its largest and most detailed open world yet. Pre-loading gives players a full week to download the game, which is especially helpful for those with slower internet connections.

Early Access and the New Zealand Trick

Pre-loading does not grant early access—the game remains locked until the official launch time. However, Xbox Series X|S owners may be able to play a few hours early by using the well-known New Zealand region trick. Because GTA 6 uses regional midnight unlocks, switching the console's location to New Zealand could let U.S. players start on November 18. This method has worked for many past releases, though Rockstar has not confirmed it for GTA 6. On PS5, changing regions is far more complicated, so the trick is primarily an Xbox option.

Storage Space Concerns

A 210 GB download would consume nearly a third of the original PS5's usable 667 GB internal storage. Players with large game libraries might need to delete older titles or invest in an expansion SSD before November 12. The pre-load window offers a practical buffer to reorganize storage without missing out on launch-day excitement.
