Description

Man, Aniimo starts out feeling like a fresh take on creature catching with that huge open world to roam around in. You get to bond with these Aniimo and pick up new moves while exploring the continent, and the multiplayer battles add some real competition. I was hooked at first but it got a bit samey after a while.

Review

The gameplay loop of catching and twining Aniimo is pretty satisfying at the start, especially when you unlock abilities that let you reach new areas or handle tougher fights. Battles in those competitions feel exciting with the strategy elements mixed in, but the free to play side shows up quick with long grinds for resources and some annoying paywalls if you want to compete seriously with others. Exploring the world on your own is chill but the MMO parts can get frustrating when servers are crowded or you run into pay-to-win players. The graphics do a solid job with the vast landscapes of Idyll and that sky-floating city looks impressive when you first arrive, making the atmosphere feel lively and adventurous. Sound design helps too with creature noises and ambient tracks that pull you into the environment, though it can get repetitive during long sessions of just running around. Overall the world has a nice next-gen polish but it does not quite hit the wow factor in every zone. If you are into Pokemon-style collecting mixed with some MMO exploration and do not mind light grinding, Aniimo is worth a try as a free game. Just go in ready to handle the monetization stuff and it can be a fun way to kill time with friends. Skip it if you want something super polished without the F2P hassles.
