Discussion: Will You Tackle High-End Heists as Jason or Lucia Whenever Possible?

The 27-minute Extended Look confirmed what I’d hoped: you can swap between Jason and Lucia on the fly, even mid-job, like one driving while the other returns fire. As someone who pores over builds and branching choices, that’s catnip. Rockstar’s given us just enough backstory to start theory-crafting. Lucia’s father taught her to fight, and she’s fresh out of Leonida Penitentiary—she likely excels in close-quarters chaos. Jason’s history of drug running and a rocky Army stint suggests he might have an edge behind the wheel or with long arms. But we haven’t seen stat sheets or skill trees yet; it’s all inference. Still, the heist footage implies the game will reward you for playing to each protagonist’s implied strengths, or for deliberately subverting them.

I’m already thinking about my first playthrough. Do I stick with Lucia for the breaching and brawling, leaning into her aggression, or hand her the wheel during escapes and let Jason’s grit handle the shooting? Maybe I’ll swap based on the phase—stealth with Jason, loud with Lucia—or role-play a favorite and deal with the consequences. The system seems deep enough to support both approaches.

So, where do you land? Are you planning to commit to one protagonist for most heists, or will you switch constantly to optimize? And does Lucia’s fighting pedigree or Jason’s shady past pull you toward a particular playstyle? Let’s hear it.

If switching mid-job is seamless, high-tier heist runs are going to be all about swapping to cancel downtime. Letting the AI handle a straightforward driving stretch while you take Lucia to clear roadblocks, or swapping characters to bypass reload animations, will be huge for routing. I doubt I will lock into one protagonist when micro-managing both could shave full minutes off an escape.

That sounds way too sweaty for me! I just want to sit on the couch after work and cause absolute chaos as Lucia without worrying about frame data. Though watching that driving footage really made me wish my partner could just pick up a second pad and steer Jason while I shoot out the window. Still looks like a blast, even strictly single-player.

That dynamic really takes me back to the old days of character swapping, almost like an open-world spin on The Lost Vikings or classic stealth-action duos. If they genuinely give them distinct handling instead of just cosmetic differences, playing off each other's kits could bring back that tactile, deliberate pacing modern blockbusters usually skip.

I am just hoping juggling two protagonists does not double the heist prep bills. If we have to buy top-tier body armor, heavy munitions, and tricked-out getaway rides for both of them before seeing a dime of profit, the grind is going to hurt. I will probably funnel every spare credit into whoever handles the heavy combat first and let the other skate by on budget gear.
