GTA 6 Map Size Rumor: How Leaked Coordinates Compare to GTA V’s World
Unconfirmed: Fan calculations using coordinates from leaked early development footage suggest Grand Theft Auto VI’s map of Leonida could be several times larger than GTA V’s Los Santos.
What the rumor says
Following the September 2022 network intrusion that exposed early GTA VI development footage, and a fresh wave of unverified “CyberLeek” posts in August–October 2026, a dedicated mapping community has been picking apart every frame. By extracting coordinate values visible in debug overlays or by triangulating landmarks across multiple clips, these fans have constructed speculative map outlines. The most common estimates place the total landmass at roughly twice the size of GTA V’s map, with some calculations pushing it to three times or more when accounting for the Keys and the open waters of the Leonida coastline. Side-by-side comparisons circulating on forums overlay the supposed GTA VI footprint onto Los Santos, making the older map look compact by comparison.
These efforts rely heavily on the 2022 build, which is now over four years old. The more recent CyberLeek material—allegedly showing newer map sections—has not been authenticated, and Rockstar has aggressively issued takedown notices against it. Even if the coordinate data is genuine, it represents an unfinished, possibly scrapped or heavily revised version of the world. No credible source has confirmed that the final game retains the same scale or layout.
What Rockstar has actually confirmed
Rockstar has officially named and shown six distinct regions within the state of Leonida: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. Trailers and the 27-minute Extended Look from August 2026 highlight a diverse geography—neon beaches, swamps, industrial farmland, and northern wilderness. But the studio has not released a full map, nor has it commented on the overall size relative to GTA V or any other title. The official GTA 6 map & locations page collects everything confirmed so far, and it’s noticeably free of any scale comparisons.
In a September 2026 Game Informer interview, Rockstar developers discussed the world’s density and scale but avoided giving concrete numbers. Similarly, the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store listings describe the setting without mentioning square mileage. All figures currently attached to the rumor—whether “2x,” “3x,” or any other multiplier—are fan-generated and not endorsed by Rockstar.
Verdict: It’s an enticing rumor that aligns with the ambition on display in official footage, but it remains purely speculative. Leaked coordinates offer a glimpse of a work-in-progress that may bear little resemblance to the final product. Until Rockstar publishes an official map or a developer explicitly states the size, treat every number as unconfirmed. We’ll continue to follow the story on our GTA 6 hub.

Twice the size sounds impressive until you realize how much dead travel time that adds to routing missions. Los Santos already had massive stretches of empty highway with zero interesting mechanics. If Leonida is really that gigantic, they better give us fluid movement options and vehicles with actual handling depth so crossing the map does not turn into an autopilot chore.
I get where you are coming from on pacing, but those quiet stretches are usually where the atmosphere really hits for me. Cruising through coastal backroads or swamplands at dusk with a good radio station playing sounds wonderful. As long as the distinct regions feel handcrafted and full of little environmental details, I will happily take a massive world to wander around in.
Just remember that a world this big is going to hold our hard drives hostage forever. Huge landmass is great value if there is actually interesting stuff scattered everywhere, but if it ends up being miles of empty swamp with nothing to loot or do, bigger is not automatically better. Give me dense, vibrant districts over empty real estate any day.
