Rockstar Details Jason and Lucia’s Backstories in GTA 6: Army Past & Liberty City Roots

Details surrounding the GTA 6 protagonists Jason Lucia story have come into sharper focus through character profiles published on the official Rockstar Games website alongside pre-launch previews. Positioned as a criminal duo navigating the sun-bleached underworld of Leonida, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos bring vastly different histories to their partnership.

Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval

According to official background information, Lucia grew up in Liberty City, where her father taught her how to fight. Prior to the game's events, she was incarcerated at Leonida Penitentiary before securing an early release. Lucia—the modern GTA era's first playable female lead—views Jason as a route toward establishing a better life.

Jason Duval was raised around grifters and holds an established history of drug running. Further background emerged during the October 2026 Launch Trailer, in which Jason admits that he got in trouble during his time in the U.S. Army and did not leave military service on the best of terms.

A Criminal Conspiracy in Leonida

Rockstar's official synopsis confirms that both characters enter the narrative with the odds heavily stacked against them:

"Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, and must rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."

Gameplay showcases have highlighted dual-protagonist mechanics, confirming real-time switching between Jason and Lucia during missions, such as coordinated sequences where one drives while the other shoots. For further details on the wider cast, see our breakdown of confirmed GTA 6 characters.
