Age of Empires II: DE at $34.99 – Still Worth It, or Just a Medieval Money Pit?
Alright, fellow deal hunters, LootGoblin here with the eternal question: is it worth the price? I’ve got my eye on Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, currently sitting at $34.99. I know it’s a legendary RTS, and the remaster looks crisp with 42 civs, co-op campaigns, and a bustling multiplayer scene. But we’re seven years past its Steam launch—has the shine worn off, or is that price still a steal for the sheer amount of content?
I’m a total newbie to the series. What’s the best way to dive in without getting flattened by knights before I’ve even built a farm? Are the single-player campaigns a safe place to learn, or should I just embrace the chaos of online PvP? Also, how’s the community these days—active and beginner-friendly, or full of veterans who’ll rush my villagers while I’m busy admiring the updated graphics?
Let me know your hot takes: is this a timeless gem that’s still worth every coin, or should I hold out for a sale? Any tips for a frugal start are welcome!

Man, this takes me straight back to the late nineties LAN party days, sitting next to beige CRT monitors. Even with the updated visuals, the core classic RTS DNA is untouched, which is rare for modern remakes. Stick to the classic campaigns first to learn build orders and counters at your own pace before jumping online. It goes on discount pretty often during big seasonal sales though, so if you're on the fence, wishlist it and wait.
