Couch Co-op Cam's Best Sports Games on RoastedGames

Sports games are at their best when they bring everyone to the couch or the party chat. I'm ranking these six based purely on fun, accessibility, and whether a second player can jump in without a spreadsheet. No hardcore meta talk here.

1. Rocket League®

This is the perfect pick-up-and-play sports game for mixed skill groups. Slamming a giant ball into a net with rocket-powered cars is instantly understandable, and the chaos of flips, boosts, and demolitions means even a first-timer can score a lucky winner. It's my top pick because every match with friends becomes a story.

It's also cross-platform and free-to-play, so no excuse for anyone to sit out. The adrenaline rush is real, and it stays fun whether you play casual or ranked.

2. EA SPORTS FC™ 26

The 48-team international bash is a smart way to mix up the usual league grind, and manager challenges with ICONs and Heroes keep matches feeling fresh. For co-op couch sessions, the variety means you're not just replaying the same league matches over and over.

It earns the silver spot because it takes steps to break the annual soccer game routine, even if it's still a big game to learn.

3. EA SPORTS™ FIFA 23

FIFA 23 gets a nod for finally letting me play women's club teams and both World Cup modes with the same controller feel. Cross-play removes the console excuse when friends are on different systems, which is huge for a couch co-op advocate.

It's still a yearly update, but the inclusivity and cross-play make it one of the best ways to get a mixed group kicking off together.

4. NBA 2K27

If you want a basketball game that keeps pulling you back, NBA 2K27 does that with its build-your-player grind and nonstop mode chasing. It's less friendly for pure casual couch drop-in because of the time investment, but the on-court action is solid.

For players who love the grind with a friend passing controllers, this can still be a great time.

5. eFootball™

When the match flows, eFootball nails a gritty, weighty soccer feel that hardcore fans will appreciate. But clunky menus, limp referee calls, and grindy unlocks make it a tougher sell for the couch crowd that values accessibility.

It's free-to-play, so if you can live with the rough edges, there's fun here. Just don't expect it to be friendly to a new player right away.

6. VRChat

Okay, VRChat isn't a traditional sports game, but if you treat its movement-heavy worlds and spontaneous games as the ultimate social field, it earns a wildcard spot. One minute you're a tiny robot tip-toeing through a haunted mansion, the next you're belting karaoke in a neon bar.

For co-op fun with friends who don't care about scorelines, this is a bizarrely entertaining alternative to sports sims. Just don't expect a referee.

That's my ranked six for right now. What sports game is missing from RoastedGames that you think deserves a couch co-op spotlight? Let us know in the comments.
