GTA 6 Release Date: November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
The wait has a concrete end: Grand Theft Auto VI is locked for November 19, 2026, landing on PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S. As covered in our full GTA 6 hub, this is the only launch date Rockstar has confirmed after two significant delays. If you're on older hardware—PS4 or Xbox One—you're out of luck; the game is built exclusively for current generation consoles.
Confirmed Release Date and Platforms
Rockstar and Take-Two made the final date official after initially targeting a Fall 2025 window. In May 2025, the game was pushed to May 26, 2026, and then, in November 2025, delayed again to its current slot. Rockstar addressed fans directly: "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." The announcement first landed in February 2022, when Rockstar said development was "well underway," and the first trailer dropped in December 2023.
Digital pre-load and physical editions—note, the boxed version contains a download code, not a disc—go live November 12, 2026, a week before launch. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. For full pricing details, see our GTA 6 price & editions page. The store pages explicitly list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with no mention of PS4, Xbox One, or PC. That silence on last-gen is definitive: there is no backward-looking version planned.
Hedged Expectations: What About PC?
Here's where facts give way to rumor. There is no announced PC version of GTA VI. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said Rockstar historically prioritizes console launches and that this isn't the result of a platform exclusivity deal. An October 2026 GamesBeat report (picked up by The Verge and Polygon) claims a PC release is targeting Q1 2027. Crucially, this remains an unverified report—Rockstar has not confirmed it, and no official system requirements exist. Our GTA 6 on PC, PS5 & Xbox page tracks all developments as they happen. If you're a PC player, the safest assumption is that you'll be waiting beyond November, but nothing is official yet.
What Still Remains Unknown
Several key details haven't been locked in by Rockstar. The launch is described as a "single-player experience," and whether a new GTA Online launches alongside it is unconfirmed—reports pointing to a 2027 multiplayer debut are just that: reports. The full map of Leonida hasn't been officially revealed, and Rockstar hasn't stated how its size compares to GTA V. While the leaks & rumors page documents community speculation, take everything outside official channels with a grain of salt. For now, the only hard fact is that Jason and Lucia's story begins on November 19, exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
